Stone Elements
The Practice

A practice of one, by design.

Akshay Berawala founded Stone Elements in Mumbai. Every specification carries his direct judgment — not a committee’s, not a catalogue’s.

Where It Started

Before stone, there were diamonds — his family’s business, where a misjudged stone wasn’t a mistake, it was a loss. That standard didn’t change when the material did.

Akshay started evaluating natural stone in 2021 and formalised the practice as Stone Elements in March 2023. The discipline carried over directly: look closely, verify everything, and never let a stone leave the room until you’re certain.

What Independent Means

There is no inherited client base here and no sales team. Every relationship — with architects, with developers, with the quarries and manufacturers whose material eventually gets specified — Akshay has built directly, over years, one project at a time. In India and with contacts in Turkey, Iran, Italy and Greece.

Independence is slower to build. It’s also the only way to guarantee that a specification is written for the project in front of him — not to move inventory.

Zero tolerance for quality deviation — the discipline diamonds taught him, applied now to stone.

The Working Philosophy

Stone Elements sits between design intent and the reality of installed stone. We study how a material will actually behave — its risk, its finish, the way it will be laid — and specify accordingly. That is the job.

Sourcing, when a client wants it handled directly, follows the same standard. But it is never the starting point and it is never assumed. We walk the stone before it is specified, we write the specification ourselves and we stay on the project until the installed surface matches exactly what was promised.
